Yesterday, on Monday, the Minister of Energy of Morocco, Leyla Benali, announced the launch of projects related to renewable energy sources in the southern regions of Morocco.
This happened in a speech by the Minister of Energy of Morocco at a meeting dedicated to holding the government accountable in the Moroccan parliament.
Benali said: “Renewable energy projects are being developed with a total capacity of more than 1.6 gigawatts, representing 36 percent of the total capacity developed, with an investment of more than 20 billion dirhams ($1.95 billion).”
“Renewable energy projects are of great interest to Moroccan and foreign investors,” added the Moroccan Minister of Energy.
On October 23, 2019, the Moroccan government announced the launch of 68 investment projects worth $6.1 billion, 29 percent of which will be implemented in the Sahara region.
She explained that the Sahara region is currently attracting a total operating capacity of more than 900 megawatts, about 21 percent of installed renewable energy, “with a financial investment of AED15 billion ($1.47 billion).”
She added: “Renewable energy programs in the southern regions of the country have an economic and social impact on the local population.”
