NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed to convey Sweden’s request to join the alliance to the Turkish parliament.

Stoltenberg said: “We have reached an agreement regarding Sweden’s accession to NATO and President Erdogan will hand over the ratification of Sweden’s accession to the Turkish parliament” as Turkey and Sweden found common ground during today’s meeting (between Erdogan, the Swedish Prime Minister and the NATO Secretary General) and will act accordingly.

NATO Secretary General: “Sweden has pledged to support Turkey in all its steps to gain full membership in the European Union.”
