Jordanian government spokesman Faisal Al-Shbul said the government intends to implement major projects with a number of countries in the region, led by Egypt.

“The Jordanian government will be implementing joint projects with Egypt, Iraq, the UAE and Bahrain in the first quarter of this year,” Al-Shbool added in a statement to Jordan TV.

The representative also announced Jordan’s intention to sign 4 memorandums of understanding on phosphate, potassium, oil shale and copper exploration, in addition to “major” agreements on phosphate and other mineral exploration.

The countries of Jordan, Egypt and Iraq agreed to adopt an “institutional mechanism” to oversee the implementation of joint cooperation projects between the three countries during a meeting held by Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shukri with Iraqi officials in the capital Baghdad.
Over the past two years, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq have held 5 joint summits, the first of which was held in Cairo in March 2019 and led to the creation of a joint council of the three countries.

The second summit was held in the United States of America in September 2019, the third in Amman in August 2020, the fourth in Baghdad in June 2021 and the fifth in December 2022.
The three countries have entered into joint and bilateral economic agreements, mainly focused on energy, trade and investment.

Recently, the union of Jordan, Iraq and Egypt has been called the New Levant, and the New Levant project is aimed primarily at creating lines for transporting oil and gas from Iraq to the Jordanian Gulf of Aqaba on the Red Sea and from there to Egypt, and then to end markets.
