After shutting down well-known apps like “Tweetbot” and “Twitterifi” last week, Twitter decided to block third-party apps entirely.

The Company has updated the “Restrictions” section of its developer agreement to include a clause that prohibits the use of or access to the Licensed Materials to create or attempt to create an alternative or similar service or product for Twitter applications, according to a report from the Arab Tech News Portal.

Earlier this week, Twitter said it was enforcing long-standing application programming interface (API) rules, and those rules stipulate that external applications should not be allowed to access its platform, but did not elaborate on which rules the developers had broken.

attracted users

It is worth noting that external Twitter applications are an integral part of the history of the platform, as an application such as “Twitterific” was present on the iOS system even before Twitter launched its application for the Apple operating system.

In recent years, these applications have attracted a large number of users, partly due to the fact that they do not display ads.

Twitter’s attitude towards third-party apps has always been lenient and even supportive, as the company removed a section of its developer terms that prevented developers from duplicating its core service.
