German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed that “Europe must speed up defense production and strengthen cooperation between its countries.”
Schultz urged NATO leaders to meet next July to focus on “strengthening Ukraine’s combat capability during its ongoing counter-offensive.”
“The Ukrainian government has itself stated that NATO membership is not discussed as long as Russia is waging war against Ukraine,” he told deputies. “Therefore, I propose to focus in Vilnius on what has now become an absolute priority, i.e. strengthening the military power of Ukraine.” .
On the other hand, Scholz called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to “pave the way” for Sweden’s NATO membership.
