North Korea condemned statements by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who considered Pyongyang’s nuclear program a “clear and present danger.”
On Saturday evening, Pyongyang released a statement accusing Guterres of applying double standards and undermining the international community’s confidence in the United Nations.
And North Korea stressed that its possession of nuclear weapons will remain “a harsh reality that cannot be erased forever.”
In a statement by the representative of the DPRK Foreign Ministry, Zhu Chol Su, Pyongyang believes that Guterres is ignoring the reckless buildup of US weapons, which are constantly being transferred to the Korean Peninsula and the region, the region.
“UN Secretary-General Guterres made highly inappropriate remarks about North Korea as a ‘clear and present danger’ and called its legitimate and prudent nuclear buildup policy ‘illegal’,” the report said.Korean Agency Yonhap..
“No matter how desperately America and its associated powers try, North Korea’s international position as a nuclear-weapon state, true to its name, will forever remain a harsh and indelible reality,” Chol said.
Joe noted that Japan does not have the moral and legal right to be a member of the UN Security Council because of its past.
Guterres said Thursday during a Security Council meeting on the rule of law chaired by Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi: “The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s illegal nuclear weapons program represents a clear and present danger and leads to geopolitical risks and tensions in new heights.
“Pyongyang is responsible for fulfilling its international obligations and returning to the negotiating table,” he added.
More recently, North Korea has built up its missile and military capabilities and conducted a record number of ballistic missile tests last year.
Many analysts predicted that Pyongyang would conduct a nuclear test this year.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un this month called for a massive increase in his country’s nuclear arsenal and the development of new intercontinental ballistic missiles in response to what Pyongyang sees as hostile from the US and South Korea.
