European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Tuesday in Davos that she supports the inclusion of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the list of terrorist organizations.

And the President of the European Commission said during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday that Europe will continue to support Ukraine “as much as necessary” in the face of Russia.

“Our unwavering support for Ukraine will not waver. Whether it’s helping restore power, heating and water supplies, or preparing for a long-term recovery effort,” she added.

Informed sources told Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadas correspondent in Brussels last Friday that delegates from European Union member states are discussing the possibility of including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on European terrorist lists as part of several options aimed at increasing pressure on Iranian authorities in response to their continued crackdown on protests and the use of the death penalty to intimidate protesters.

According to sources, Germany has been proposing for some time now to include the Revolutionary Guard as a whole on the European terrorist list. The sources added that the Netherlands and the Czech Republic supported the German proposal.

France may submit a proposal to this effect during the meeting of delegates next week as a prelude to meetings of European foreign ministers later.

According to sources, delegates are discussing the possibility of adopting a fourth package of sanctions against Iran, which will be made public after the meeting of foreign ministers on Monday, January 23.

The same sources suggested that the issue of including the Revolutionary Guards on European terrorist lists would require some time to be researched and verified due to legal, political and diplomatic aspects.

Last Thursday, British Foreign Office Secretary of State Leo Docherty told Parliament that the UK was considering designating Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization, but had not yet made a final decision on the matter.
