Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that the lack of spare parts for Leopard tanks is an obstacle to opening a special service center in Poland.
Mrawiecki added that “there are questions from the Polish Arms Group, as well as from Germany.”
He continued: “We need special procedures prepared in Germany, and according to the information I received, the main problem with this project is the lack of spare parts for the Leopard tanks, and it is difficult to talk about maintenance in light of the lack of spare parts.”
He emphasized that Poland is interested in having a dedicated Leopard tank repair center on its territory, adding: “I can confirm our interest in establishing a Leopard tank repair center in cooperation with the German and Ukrainian sides in the near future.
This happened after the statement by the Permanent Representative of Warsaw to NATO, Tomasz Shatkovsky, that Poland and Germany are seeking to conclude a deal to establish a center for the repair of Leopard tanks used in Ukraine in Poland.
According to him, the center is planned to be created in the city of Gliwice in southern Poland, noting that the country has great opportunities to serve American Abrams tanks.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said earlier on Monday that Russian forces had destroyed 920 armored vehicles, including 16 Leopard tanks, in the Donbass and Zaporozhye over the past month.
For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry has described the supply of weapons by NATO countries to Ukraine as “playing with fire”, incitement that fuels the crisis, undermines the chances for peace and could lead to the outbreak of nuclear war.
The Russian Defense Ministry also warned Western countries against supplying weapons to Ukraine and promised to crush them on Ukrainian soil.
