Wales captain Aaron Ramsey is returning to his first club Cardiff City on a two-year deal.

Ramsey, 32, reached an agreement with French side Nice to complete the last year of his contract, which the French club announced on Saturday night, so that the player could join Cardiff City, who play in the second tier of the English Championship.

“It’s an incredible feeling to finally be back here,” Ramsey told the Cardiff City website.

“I always thought I’d be back someday, and now is the perfect time to do so.”

He added: “Being in the Premier League and representing Cardiff on the big stage is something I will strive for along with my colleagues.”

On Friday, Ramsey successfully completed a medical at Cardiff, the club he was at before spending a decade at Arsenal and then having various experiences with Italy’s Juventus and Scottish side Glasgow Rangers.

At Nice, where he signed a free transfer after his contract with Juventus expired, Ramsey made 34 appearances, including 27 in the French league and 7 in the Conference League competition in the 2022-2023 season.

He ended up scoring one goal and providing three assists.
