European Union Commissioner for External Relations Josep Borrell said today, Sunday, that the resumption of relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran will contribute to stability in the region.
“The Saudi-Iranian understanding is good news and will help ease tensions in the region,” Borrell said, answering a question from Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadas during a press conference with the Iraqi Foreign Minister, who is with visit to Brussels. .
It comes at a time when Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian said today, Sunday, that he will hold a meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in the “near future.” He continued, “We have proposed 3 locations for a meeting with the Saudi Foreign Minister.”
He explained that based on the latest messages exchanged with Saudi Arabia, Iran also announced its readiness to reopen the two embassies, adding, “We have agreed with Saudi Arabia to visit technical delegations at the two embassies in preparation for their reopening.”
At a press conference, he added that relations with Riyadh had normalized after five rounds of talks in Baghdad.
On March 10, Saudi Arabia and Iran announced the resumption of diplomatic relations interrupted since 2016 after talks organized by China.
