Egyptian Maiar Sheriff advanced to the second round of the German tennis tournament in Hamburg on grass courts, defeating German invitee Anna-Lena Friedsam on Monday with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Maillard, ranked 31st in the world rankings, will face Italy’s Lucia Pronzetti in the next round, who defeated Austria’s Julia Grabherr 6-4, 6-1.

Canada’s Bianca Andreescu, who finished second last year, advanced to the same round by defeating Britain’s wild card Sunai Kartal 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.

Andreescu will play Spain’s Rebecca Massarova in the second round, who beat Belarusian Aleksandra Sasnovich 6-3, 6-2.

In last year’s final in Hamburg, Andreescu lost to Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia with a score of 7:6, 4:6, 4:6.
