After strong explosions thundered on the spot, Crimean Governor Sergei Aksyonov announced today, Monday, the suspension of traffic on the Crimean bridge linking the peninsula with Russia’s Krasnodar Territory due to an “emergency situation.”
Although Aksyonov did not mention any other details in his message on the Telegram app, the Russian authorities have asked their citizens not to use the bridge, but to take an alternative land route that passes through new Russian regions to get to or from the peninsula.
Aksyonov urged citizens to remain calm and rely only on information from reliable sources, stressing the existence of sufficient supplies of fuel, food and industrial goods.
The authorities of the Krasnodar Territory also announced the suspension of ferry traffic between the region and the Crimean peninsula due to an accident on the bridge.
Wagner confirms
In addition, the Ukrainian news agency RBC reported that explosions were heard on the bridge.
In turn, the channel, owned by the Russian private military group Wagner, also confirmed in the Telegram application that the bridge was struck twice at 03:04 (00:04 Moscow time) and 03:20.
However, the Ministry of Transport of Russia denied the information about the damage to the columns of the Crimean bridge and stated that only the road along the bridge was damaged.
Crimea targeting
It is noteworthy that since the attack on the Crimean bridge on October 8 last year (2022), the Ukrainian peninsula, which Russia annexed to its power, without international recognition of this move, has been subjected to several attacks, most of them by drones, especially in Sevastopol.

While Moscow was pointing its finger at Kyiv, the latter was mostly silent.
Last June, Russian-appointed officials in the Kherson and Crimean regions confirmed that Ukrainian forces launched a missile attack on a bridge linking Kherson in southern Ukraine with Crimea.
