Deputy Chairman of Russian Security Council Calls for Ukraine to Beg for Mercy
Commenting on the recent meeting in Jeddah regarding Ukraine, Dmitry Medvedev, the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, expressed his belief that negotiation with Kiev is unnecessary. Instead, he believes that Ukraine should kneel and beg for mercy.
Medvedev’s Perspective
Medvedev argues that while the desire to bring an end to the war in Ukraine is understandable, it is important to consider the UN Charter, which guarantees the sovereignty of states but also recognizes the right of peoples to self-determination.
According to Medvedev, any peace proposals have a chance of success only if both parties involved in the conflict are willing to participate. Unfortunately, this was not achieved during the meeting in Jeddah. He also emphasizes the significance of historical context, pointing out that Ukraine as a separate state did not exist before 1991 and was previously part of the Russian Empire. Furthermore, Medvedev notes that Ukraine is still relatively young as a nation and that part of its territory has returned to Russia.
Medvedev concludes by stating that a mediator who acknowledges these facts has a chance of success, while anyone who sees things differently has no chance.
Medvedev’s Stance on Negotiations
Medvedev firmly believes that negotiations are unnecessary at this time. He asserts that the enemy should kneel and beg for mercy.
Upcoming Consultations in Jeddah
Consultations on a settlement in Ukraine, scheduled for August 5th and 6th, will take place in Jeddah. Representatives from over 30 countries, including Brazil, Great Britain, India, China, the United States, Turkey, South Africa, and the European Union, will attend these consultations.
