The Public Transport Authority of Saudi Arabia has launched the Kingdom’s first electric passenger bus, which will serve the people of Jeddah province as part of public transport routes.

In detail, the Acting Head of the State Transport Authority, Rumaih bin Muhammad Al Rumaih, in the presence of His Excellency Saleh bin Ali Al Turki, Mayor of Jeddah Province, and Khaled Al Khogail, President of the Saudi Public Transport Company SAPTCO, inaugurated the first electric bus in Jeddah today public transport in the Kingdom, which will serve the inhabitants of the province. passenger electric buses.

The authorities said the opening comes within the framework of the national strategic goals for transport and logistics services to reduce carbon emissions by 25% by 2030, as well as the introduction of modern means and technologies in transport activities and services to reduce carbon emissions, and to promote improving the quality of life in central cities through environmentally friendly transport.

The authorities indicated that the bus can travel 300 km on a single charge and is considered one of the modern buses with high efficiency, as it consumes less than 10% of electricity compared to other electric buses. use its services in the vicinity of Al-Khalidiyah, Al-Rawda, Al-Andalus, Al-Ruwais, Al-Baghdadiya and Al-Balad.

Regarding future projects to reduce congestion, the appointed head of the Public Transport Authority, Rumaykh bin Muhammad Al-Rumaikh, said that the task of the authority and the secretariat is to start providing public transport in medium-sized cities such as Jazan, Sabya, Abu. Arish, Taif and Qassim and it will be operational this year as it will be launched in Tabuk, Al Ahs and other cities, providing an excellent service to transport citizens and residents from home to work.

He explained: “We are working on using other alternatives for taxis and public transport, and we have various tests for using alternatives that reduce carbon emissions as a target for Kingdom Vision 2030 until we reach 45% in transport, which results in to purity. energy”. .
