Saudi Transport Minister Saleh Al Jasser said that Saudi Arabia and Iraq are working together as part of the work of the Coordinating Council of the two countries to improve air communication.

Al Jasser added in an interview with Al Arabiya on the sidelines of a meeting of the Saudi-Iraqi Coordinating Council that agreements had been signed to strengthen air traffic between the two countries, and Saudi airlines were starting direct flights to Iraq.

He explained that during the remainder of this year, the number of flights between the two countries will be doubled to help facilitate the movement of citizens and expand opportunities for trade exchanges.

The minister pointed to the importance of the new port of Arar in supporting and increasing trade between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, which grew by 50% last year.

And he pointed out that the throughput of the port will be increased to receive 70,000 pilgrims and pilgrims, adding: “In recent weeks, about 6,000 pilgrims pass every day.”
