US media reported that Attorney Jack Smith, who is investigating former President Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents, has summoned the latter’s deputy, Mike Pence, for questioning.
The ABC, citing informed sources, indicated that it was not immediately clear what information investigators were trying to obtain, but the subpoena was issued after several months of negotiations between the federal prosecution team and Pence’s legal team.
The channel added that representatives for Pence and Trump did not respond to a request for comment on the matter. There were also no comments from the prosecutor’s office investigating the case.
Notably, Jack Smith was appointed last November to investigate Trump’s handling of classified documents that were found at his headquarters in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, and his obstruction of authorities’ efforts to return those documents. .
