On Saturday evening, the Israeli Home Front Command asked residents of the Kedumim settlement in the northern West Bank to enter their homes and close their doors and windows, while security forces carried out a sweep in search of a second attacker.
Immediate closure of attackers’ homes
According to The Jerusalem Post, in response to the operation in Jerusalem, the Israeli government sent reinforcements to the police and the army, made further arrests and collected unlicensed weapons.
This happened a few hours after the meeting of the Israeli mini-cabinet, which discussed new, tougher measures to prevent terrorism; These include the immediate closure of the attackers’ homes and the expulsion of their family members.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the start of the meeting, “Whoever tries to harm us, we will harm him and whoever helps him,” promising a strong, swift and precise response. We have already carried out mass arrests of those who support, aid and incite.”
The Israeli Prime Minister added: “We are deploying forces and strengthening units, and we are doing this in various sectors,” continuing: “We will close and destroy the homes of terrorists in the emergency operations that began yesterday and continue.”
Carrying a weapon
Among the measures to be discussed by the security cabinet, Netanyahu said, is speeding up the issuance of gun licenses to Israeli citizens, given that armed civilians have saved lives in previous attacks and over the weekend.
He said the cabinet would seek to deprive family members of the attackers who have Israeli citizenship or residence permits of national insurance benefits. A senior source said other measures would include the arrest of family members and the passage of a law to expel them.
