The German company Reimental has announced its readiness to supply Kyiv with more than 100 Leopard 1 and 2 tanks in addition to the British Challenger 1 tanks during the current 2023.
The German newspaper Handelsblatt, citing sources in the defense industry, reported: “The German military industry is preparing to supply tanks to Ukraine. In addition to Leopard 2, British Leopard 1 and Challenger 1 tanks can be repaired and transported to Kyiv.”
According to the newspaper, this initiative is in the interests of the company “Rimnetal” and should help to avoid the transfer of tanks from the armed forces, and the newspaper indicates that we are talking about more than 100 tanks.
“The company could procure and develop dozens of British tanks in Oman, and the vehicles could be delivered to Ukraine this year,” a source told Handelsblatt.
Germany has so far refrained from supplying Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, and recently the pressure on the German Chancellor has increased significantly in this regard.
Several EU heads of state have publicly urged Schulz to accept the decision, and on Thursday Germany held a debate in the Bundestag over tank deliveries to Kyiv, where pro-government factions indicated the issue would be resolved. at the next NATO meeting in Ramstein.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expressed hope that decisions on the supply of heavy weapons would be made by Kyiv following a meeting of the Contact Group for Support to Ukraine at the American Ramstein airbase in Germany on January 20.
Earlier, Russia sent a memorandum to NATO countries on the supply of weapons to Ukraine, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indicated that any supply of weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russian forces.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that NATO countries are “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Peskov also pointed out that the supply of weapons to Ukraine from the West does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative impact.
