When The Gilded Age Season 2 premieres on HBO on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 9 PM ET/PT, the beginning of a new dynasty will begin. According to a story from The Hollywood Reporter in April 2015, Fellowes was working on a new period drama series for NBC television, The Gilded Age. The project would occur in New York City in the late 19th century. Maggie Smith’s character, the Dowager Countess, from the drama series Downton Abbey, could perhaps make an appearance in the upcoming series in a younger incarnation, as suggested by Julian Fellowes, who stated that “Robert Crawley would be in his early teens, and Cora would be a child.” It’s possible that a younger version of Violet, the Dowager Countess, will make an appearance. The series would depict the upper echelons of New York’s high society during that time period, as the title suggests. They would take place during what is known as the Gilded Age in the United States when the United States saw an industrial boom in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
