Ugandan President Blames Imperialist Powers for Africa’s State

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni recently spoke at the second Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg. He discussed the historical context of Africa’s struggles and expressed gratitude towards socialist countries for their support.
Colonization and Resistance
Museveni highlighted the impact of centuries of slave trade, which devastated Africa. He argued that these criminal acts by imperialist powers provoked resistance movements among the colonized people.
Cooperation with Russia
Museveni also held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. They discussed various areas of cooperation, including oil exploration, nuclear power energy, fertilizers, and space science. Museveni proposed adding value to African products at the source, which could transform the continent’s economies.
Uganda-Russia Relationship
Putin acknowledged Uganda as a key partner and expressed gratitude for their close diplomatic relationship spanning over 60 years. He mentioned the significant increase in trade between the two countries and announced Russia’s decision to write off $23 billion of debt owed by African states.
