Tunisian Christians and Muslims Call for “Living Together” in Procession
Introduction
Hundreds of Tunisian Christians and Muslims participated in a procession in the city of La Goulette. The procession aimed to promote harmony and unity in the country following tensions over the issue of immigrants.
Procession for the Feast of the Assumption
On the occasion of the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the participants carried the statue of the “Madonna of Trapani” and walked 200 meters to reach the municipal house of La Goulette. Archbishop Ilario Antoniasi of Tunisia and Bishop Pietro Maria Fragnelli of Trapani (Sicily) were present and led the “prayer for power.”
Addressing Tensions
During the Mass, Antoniasi acknowledged the tensions in Tunisia over the immigrant issue. He highlighted the historical significance of the Virgin Mary’s journey from Trapani to La Goulette, where she was warmly welcomed and respected.
A Model for Coexistence
Antoniasi expressed his satisfaction with the participants’ procession, emphasizing that it aimed to bless all the inhabitants of La Goulette and Tunisia. The march aimed to showcase La Goulette and Tunisia as a model for religious coexistence.
Prayer for Unity
In front of the town hall, Antoniasi and Bishop Fragnelli prayed for the people of Tunisia, hoping for love, unity, and harmony in the country.
