The Kremlin statement says that at the initiative of the Turkish side, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin held telephone conversations with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the President of Russia informed his Turkish counterpart about the situation in the country in connection with an attempted armed uprising.
The statement added that Erdogan expressed to Putin his full support for the steps taken by the Russian leadership to counter this attempt (an armed rebellion).
Earlier today, on Saturday, Putin delivered an emergency speech after the Wagner founder called for armed defiance, calling the call a betrayal of Russia and its people, and stressed that its organizers would not escape punishment.
He pointed out that an attempted military mutiny is a stab in the back, and that the Russian authorities will not allow the division of Russia and will seek to protect the people.
