Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Donmez announced today, Monday, that electricity and energy networks were damaged in the areas of the earthquake.

The Minister added that the huge damage makes it difficult for rescue teams to reach people affected by the earthquake.

A magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck southern Turkey early Monday morning and was felt by people in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Greece, Cyprus and Armenia, killing and injuring thousands in Turkey and Syria. in addition to the collapse of a large number of buildings and the siege of dozens under the rubble, and the exit of the Residents to the snow-covered streets. The Turkish authorities have announced the fourth level of readiness, which means a request for international assistance. The Turkish army is facilitating the transfer of medical teams to the affected areas.

For its part, the Turkish state-owned gas company (Botas) reported that some sections of the local gas network were seriously damaged after a devastating earthquake hit the south of the country.

The company said in a statement today, Monday, that the damage affected the Kahramanmarash-Gaziantep gas transmission line, shutting off gas supplies to the provinces of Gaziantep, Hatay, Kahramanmarash, Pazarchik, Narli, Songs, Golbashi, Nordagi, Silie, and Reyhanli. The Kilis gas pipeline was also damaged, but supplies continue.
