A Pakistani court has ordered the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on bail in two new cases in which he faces “terrorism charges”.

Imran Khan was ousted in April 2022 after a parliamentary memorandum of no confidence was issued against him, and as he seeks to return to power, Khan is facing dozens of court cases against him.

After he failed to appear in an Islamabad court on March 11 to investigate the fate of gifts that were presented to him during his reign and his illegal receipt of money by selling them, an arrest warrant was issued against him. which Khan denies.

This caused massive protests by Khan’s supporters who tried to prevent his arrest.

“The court canceled the arrest warrant after Imran Khan’s appearance and the hearing was adjourned until March 30,” his lawyer Gohar Khan told AFP.

After several days of legal battles, Khan drove over 300 km from Lahore to the Islamabad courthouse but was unable to get out of the car. Large numbers of his supporters gathered around the compound and threw stones at the police, who responded with tear gas. But the court accepted his presence, according to his lawyer.

Khan confirmed that he was the victim of a plot to prevent him from participating in elections scheduled for October next year, and added: “The purpose of their attack on my house was not to put me on trial, but to put me in jail.”
