UAW Files Unfair Labor Practice Charges Against General Motors and Stellantis
The United Auto Workers (UAW) has filed unfair labor practice charges against automakers General Motors and Stellantis. The charges were filed with the National Labor Relations Board due to the companies’ failure to bargain with the union in good faith and in a timely manner, according to UAW President Shawn Fain.
These filings come as a result of the companies not responding promptly to the union’s demands. However, the UAW did not file a complaint against Ford Motor, as the company responded to the demands with a counterproposal.
Ford’s counterproposal, while including a 9% wage increase over the four-year term, one-time lump-sum bonuses, and unlimited use of lower-paid temporary workers without the same benefits, was heavily criticized by Fain. He stated that the company rejected all of the union’s job security and quality of life proposals, such as additional paid holidays and a shorter work week.
Spokespeople for the automakers as well as the union and the NLRB have not yet provided additional details or comments regarding these filings.
