Local TV2 said that because of Ukraine’s desire to acquire the Caesar-class guns, which are in storage with the Danish army, Copenhagen is faced with a “critical dilemma”.
The channel noted that Kyiv’s request became a “headache” for the newly appointed Minister of Defense of Denmark, Jacob Elman-Jensen, because the Caesar guns play a big role in the size of the Danish army, and Ukraine demands their transfer free of charge.
The channel added: “There has been tension in the Danish army over the possible outcome of this case.”
And the channel said that 19 French-made guns had not yet arrived at the army base in Okpol, and indicated that the process was slowing down and dragging on for several years.
Colonel Thorben Dixen Müller, former commander of an artillery regiment in the Danish army, warned: “This is one of the first cases we know of when the transfer of weapons to Ukraine has a direct negative impact on the defense of Denmark. Our armed forces need these heavy weapons and it will take years to re-equip our army with them.” .
The channel emphasized that the problem for Denmark is that the Caesar guns are very important for solving the “first priority” – the creation of a military brigade, which is one of Denmark’s obligations to NATO. Of course, this task will become very difficult if the guns are delivered to Ukraine. And in the long run, this will affect relations with NATO and, as a result, the security of Denmark itself.
