At least 12 children aged between one and eight have died in the past two months in the central Ivory Coast village of Kepokahankro after contracting an unknown disease.

This was announced today, Thursday, by the head of the Rural Youth Association, Paul Kawasi, to AFP, indicating that sick children show signs of lethargy or stupor, which are accompanied by vomiting.

Specialists visited the village in December 2022, when the first death occurred. Despite this, analyzes of tissue samples taken from the bodies of patients were not provided to scientists after the cause of the disease was established.
