New orders for US-made goods rebounded in December, but higher interest rates weighed on business spending on equipment, which could put pressure on the manufacturing sector.

The Commerce Department said on Thursday that factory orders rose 1.8% after falling 1.9% in November.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected factory orders to rise 2.2%.

Orders rose 11.8% year-on-year in December.
