US Secretary of State confirms possibility of Putin-Biden meeting
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed on Thursday that the possibility of a meeting between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden has not been ruled out.
Blinken said in response to a question in an interview with The Atlantic about the possibility of a meeting between Biden and Putin: “Never rule it out.”
Tensions have recently been observed in Russian-American relations after the Russian Foreign Ministry announced a summons to US Ambassador to Moscow Lynn Tracy and notified her that two US embassy employees had been declared persona non grata.
Last April, the US ambassador to Moscow said relations between the United States and Russia were currently at their lowest point in a long time.
The ambassador emphasized that there are different opinions in Washington regarding the circumstances that led to the deterioration of relations between the United States and Russia. “I think it’s important to address this issue,” she added.
In turn, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that relations between Moscow and Washington at the moment can be described as “collapsed”, and the American side bears responsibility for this.
In an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel, he said: “We have seen how radically the American approach has changed since the signing and ratification of the START Treaty.”
