US to Provide Taiwan with HIMARS Missile Launchers and ATACMS Missiles

According to Taiwanese media reports, the United States has announced plans to provide Taiwan with 11 HIMARS missile launchers in 2024 along with 64 ATACMS missiles. This military aid package is estimated to cost around $214 million.

Additional Support for Taiwan

Taiwan will also receive two mechanisms to assist in preparing missile launcher crews, as per the Taiwanese newspaper Liberty Times.

Training and Maintenance

The Ministry of Defense in Taiwan intends to send 30 specialists to the US for training in the use and maintenance of the US missile launchers. These specialists will later become instructors for the Taiwanese forces. The training course is scheduled to last for 90 days, from February to October next year.

Delivery Timeline

It is projected that the rocket launchers will be delivered to Taiwan in the second half of next year. Additionally, in 2027, a second batch of HIMARS missile launchers, consisting of 18 launchers, along with 864 regular missiles and 20 tactical missiles, is planned to be delivered.

China’s Response

China, which considers Taiwan as part of its territory, has condemned the US plans to provide military assistance to Taiwan. China has warned Washington against taking such steps.
