US Treasury Department Imposes Sanctions on Former Bank of Lebanon Governor Riad Salameh

A notice posted today Thursday on the US Treasury Department website said the United States has imposed Lebanon-related sanctions on former Bank of Lebanon governor Riad Salameh and others.

Accusations and Legal Objections

The longtime ruler, whose term expired at the end of July last year, is facing accusations in Lebanon, France, and Germany of embezzling large sums of public funds in Lebanon. Salameh said his lawyers filed legal objections in both France and Germany.
