The 2024 Copa América will take place in the United States with ten teams from South America (CONMEBOL) and six from North, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF), according to what the latter announced today.
The CONCACAF Federation stated that the tournament will be jointly organized by the two continental federations (CONCACAF and CONMEBOL).
Six CONCACAF teams will qualify for the 2024 Copa América through the 2023/24 CONCACAF Nations League, while all CONMEBOL teams will compete in a ten-team tournament.
This announcement is part of a series of new collaborative projects between the federations of the Americas.
The United States, Mexico and Canada are co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the America’s Cup is seen as the perfect venue for this World Cup.
Copa America 2024 also ensures that the three World Cup host countries automatically qualified for the 48-team final will play additional competitive matches as part of their preparation for the World Cup.
Previously, the United States hosted a special edition of the 2016 America’s Cup featuring CONCACAF teams.
The last draw took place in 2021 and Argentina won the title against host Brazil.
