The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, said today, Thursday, that for the first time since November 2022, electricity has been completely cut off at the Zaporozhye NPP.
Grossi noted that the amount of diesel fuel at the station is enough to keep the generators running for 15 days. According to him, 8 of the 20 generators located there provide electricity to the station, and the rest have been switched to standby mode. He said: “Two of the six power units have been transferred from hot shutdown to cold shutdown. For the first time since November 23, 2022, the station lost all external sources of electricity, and this happened after the news of rocket attacks throughout Ukraine. during the night.”
Grossi said he would continue “urgent consultations and contacts.” He pointed out that such a situation (complete cessation of external power supply to the station) is happening for the sixth time.
The agency confirms that the Yuzhno-Ukrainskaya nuclear power plant experienced a power outage inside it, but it still receives the necessary energy from external sources if necessary. No damage was recorded at the Rivne, Khmelnitsky and Chernobyl nuclear power plants.
For his part, Vladimir Rogov, a deputy from the Zaporozhye region, said that the Ukrainian side had completely cut off the supply of electricity to the nuclear power plant in Inergodar.
Rogov, who also leads the “We are with Russia” movement, added: “At 04:53, the Ukrainian side cut off the last power line that fed the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Thus, the station was completely disabled. from external energy sources.
And Rogov continued: “This reduction has nothing to do with the bombing, and nothing has happened in the region that could lead to a cessation of supplies. This is simply malicious behavior on the part of the Kyiv authorities, and it indicates the extent of their impotence.”
According to him, this power outage may cause certain difficulties in providing heat and heat to the city of Energodar. He said: “A power outage at the station could lead to heating problems. But in fact, we have attracted alternative sources of heat.”
Rogov pointed out that power units No. 5 and 6 of the station are currently in the process of transition from a hot shutdown to a bar one.
