Jordanian Football Clubs Suspend Participation in League

Jordanian football clubs have taken an unprecedented stance by deciding to suspend their participation in the league. This means that matches in the sixth stage, including Al Wahdat vs Al Shabab and Ma’an vs Al Salta, will not be played on Saturday.

The clubs have made this decision in order to pressure the Jordan Football Association to meet their demands. One of the main demands is the payment of JD200,000 to each club. They are also seeking an official sponsor for the professional club championships for the current 2023-2024 season.

According to a close source, the Jordan Pro League clubs will hold a meeting at the Al-Faisaly headquarters tomorrow, Sunday, to discuss the latest developments. The local game federation has confirmed that its executive director, Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, will lead the meeting, which aims to discuss the strategic plan for Jordanian football for the next five years (2023-2028).

In a news article published on its website, Al Ittihad did not mention or discuss the issue of suspending the clubs’ participation in the league.

The meeting held by the federation included extensive discussions on key areas of strategy, such as national teams, age groups, and the development of local championships. It also focused on improving infrastructure, empowering clubs, enhancing the marketing aspect, and increasing public interaction.

The federation stated, “By developing its strategic plan and defining its main goals for the coming years, the Union, for the first time, looks to focus its efforts and the work of its staff, committees, and various pillars of the system and partners. This will help achieve quality goals over a period of time, with a consistent work mechanism that is subject to continuous monitoring and evaluation, in order to fulfill the aspirations of the entire Jordanian football family.”
