Croatian defender Diana Lovren sent a message to Egyptian Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s top scorer and former Reds teammate, about how Croatia reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Lovren helped Croatia advance to the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup at the expense of his Japanese counterpart, beating him on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time and no goal in extra time in a meeting that brought them together yesterday, Monday, at the stadium “Al-Janub” in Al-Wakr.

In statements published by the English newspaper The Sun, Lovren said: “Perhaps the stars have decreed that Croatia will qualify in this way. We have to suffer, but without suffering there is no reward.”

He added: “We have shown that we are among the top 8 teams in the world and what happened in 2018 is not good luck, especially for my friend Salah, I showed him that.”

And he continued his remarks: “Especially my friend Mohamed Salah, who told me, oh penalty.”

He explained, “But where is the luck? Levakovic (goalkeeper) saved almost all the penalties from the Japanese players and we then said: “Oh my God, we are really bad”.

Lovren revealed what Salah told him after Croatia reached the 2018 World Cup final: “He always told me you get to the final from a penalty, always from a penalty, but I told him, let me show you the truth, and we showed the whole world that we are strong.”

Notably, Diane Lovren, 33, has maintained a strong friendship with Mohamed Salah since they teamed up at Liverpool in 2017.

Croatia will face their Brazilian counterpart in the Qatar 2022 World Cup quarter-finals, who in turn beat South Korea 4-1 in the match that brought them together last night, Monday. at the 974 Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
