According to Agence France Presse, more than 45,000 migrants arrived illegally on the British coast during 2022 across the English Channel on unsafe smuggling ships.
The British Ministry of Defense said in a statement that this number is equivalent to twice the number of illegal refugees who arrived on the British coast in 2021, as their number exceeded 28,000 refugees.
The agency added that the number of refugees in the month of August set records, as about 1,295 migrants arrived on the British coast every day, compared with December, when the number of refugees reached 1,745 people a day.
On December 14, a small boat carrying dozens of immigrants from France sank, four of whom died, while another 39 who were lucky enough to have a fishing boat nearby survived.
On November 24, 2021, 27 refugees aged 7 to 46 died when their rubber boat sank.
The case of illegal immigration is sensitive for the British government, since since its exit from the European Union, the Conservatives have pledged to control the borders and prevent this phenomenon.
