The Iraq national team kicked off their Gulf 25 Football Championship campaign with a tasteful loss draw against their Omani counterpart in the opening match that brought them together tonight, Friday, in the city of Basra.

The Lions of Mesopotamia were unable to score against Omani Red at home or among the fans, despite being in control of the match, especially in the second half at the Palm Trunk Stadium in Basra, ahead of 65,000 spectators.

Iraq agreed to one point after this draw, as well as the Sultanate of Oman, awaiting the results of the second match in Group A, also later in the evening between Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
