The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity continues to implement projects to connect electrical networks with Africa, Europe, Asia and the Arab countries.

The Egyptian and Saudi sides have started field work related to the interconnection project between the two countries for the exchange between them of 3,000 megawatts of electricity.

Egyptian Energy Minister Mohamed Shaker said that the Egyptian and Saudi sides have begun the stages of supplying the necessary materials for the construction of power lines, whether in Egyptian or Saudi Arabian territory, explaining that studies related to the project have been completed. , and all the technical aspects of the project, which allows the simultaneous exchange of 3 thousand megawatts between the two countries. A peak that differs between the two countries with a difference of about 6 hours.

Shaker added that the project has a timeframe of 36 months from the date of signing of contracts at an investment cost of £8 billion for the Egyptian side, adding that the project schedule calls for the commissioning of the first phase of the project in October 2025 with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts, which indicates that that the remaining capacities will be introduced sequentially until it reaches 3,000 megawatts for exchange with the Saudi side.

For its part, an official source in the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy said that excavation work has begun on pouring concrete foundations for laying power transmission towers with a power line between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, showing that this work is being carried out simultaneously with the pouring of concrete for the Saudi side. .
