Republican Representative Matt Goetz nominated former U.S. President Donald Trump for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives after the House failed to elect a president for the tenth time.
Goetz had already voted for the former presidentWhen lawmakers made their seventh attempt to elect the speaker of the new House of Representatives, the politician ended the tour with one vote in his support, knowing that Trump is not a member of the House of Representatives, and he will not receive the necessary votes, so he will not become president.
Goetz had previously floated the idea of Trump becoming Speaker of the House of Representatives. If he and his party agree to vote for Trump for Speaker, the move would be unprecedented, but not technically prohibited. If he becomes Speaker, one of the main concerns is that Trump will have too much influence on the legislation that passes through the House of Representatives.
