Saudi Minister of Environment, Water Resources and Agriculture Abdul Rahman Al-Fadli today approved an expansion plan in the plant and greenhouse sector with an investment of 4 billion riyals through 2025.

Al-Fadli said the expansion plan will boost additional production estimated at 430,000 tons, bringing the greenhouse’s production capacity to over one million tons per year.

Al-Fadli explained that the expansion plan is a continuation of the unrestricted support for the agricultural sector in the Kingdom, as the value of loans provided by the Agricultural Development Fund to manufacturing sectors in 2022 exceeded about 5 billion rials. This was reported by the Saudi Press Agency “SPA”.

It is noteworthy that the preparation of a greenhouse expansion plan using modern technology began from an early age. If this type of agriculture has been used in the Kingdom for more than 30 years, and greenhouse agriculture has undergone significant changes in all its technical, production and preventive fields, since greenhouses help to produce crops in a timely manner and extend their availability seasons, since this is a major factor in the success of specialized agricultural production, such as organic agriculture, and provides protection from the effects of various climatic conditions, such as high and low heat, rain and wind, and limits the spread of agricultural pests. .

The results of research and scientific studies conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Water Resources and Agriculture showed that the use of modern technologies in the agro-industrial complex and greenhouses contributed to irrigation water savings of up to 60%, in addition to increasing labor productivity, reducing costs. , improving quality and increasing profits for farmers.
