Iranian Supreme National Security Council spokesman Kivan Khosravi confirmed that any pretext for attacking the bases, which were set up at the request of the Syrian government to fight terrorism and ISIS, would be met with a counter response.
A spokesman for the Supreme National Security Council said in response to US officials’ allegations of Iranian involvement in the attack on illegal US bases in Syria that “The United States is trying, by projecting and evading the consequences of the illegal occupation of part of Syrian lands, to blame this country’s armed forces and that the accusations against Iran are false.”
“Washington cannot attribute the natural and legitimate confrontation between the occupying countries and the US armed forces to other countries, creating artificial crises and resorting to lies,” he added.
He added: “Iran has incurred great expenses to counter terrorism and ensure security in Syria, and it opposes and will oppose any action that threatens the stability of this country.”
He mentioned the US role in creating and supporting ISIS as an alternative tool to achieve political goals in Syria and Iraq.
“Over the past two days, American helicopters have carried out several sorties to perpetuate the destabilization in Syria by ferrying ISIS terrorists, and they should be held accountable for this,” Keyvan Khosravi said.
He stressed that any pretext to attack bases set up by Iran at the request of the Syrian government to counter terrorism and ISIS elements would be immediately met with a counter-response.
