The number of new cars produced in the UK in 2022 fell to its lowest level in 66 years due to disruptions in the supply chain.

According to SMMT, the number of cars produced last year fell by 9.8% to 775,014, the worst annual figure since 1956.

The data confirmed that the level of production in 2022 is 40.5% below the pre-pandemic level of 2019.

The data showed that some 607,000 of last year’s total production were exported overseas, worth the equivalent of £10 billion.
