Wall Street’s major indexes opened lower on Thursday as the Federal Reserve’s hint of a longer period of monetary tightening dampened hopes that the rate hike cycle would end soon.

Industrial index Dow Jones at the opening of trading fell by 193.35 points, or 0.57%, to 33,773.00 points.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index began trading down 36.95 points, or 0.92%, to 3958.37, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 158.26 points, or 1.42%, to 11012.62 point at the opening, according to Reuters.
